About

Britain Bites Back Brexit Poll refers to a poll created by the Facebook page Britain Bites Back, a satirically pro-Brexit group that asked its users if they would vote "Leave" or "Remain" today. After the poll began trending overwhelmingly towards "Remain," the runners of the page appeared to have a meltdown, at one point telling itself "Tegan Delete This FFS!", which became a running joke.

Origin

On March 26th, 2019, satirically pro-Brexit Facebook page Britain Bites Back posted a poll asking if users would vote "Leave" or "Remain" today. The poll went overwhelmingly to "Remain," with a percentage lead of 85%-15% after over 216,000 votes as of April 3rd, 2019.[1]

Spread

As results came in, the admins of the page appeared to have a meltdown, arguing with each other over deleting the poll and claiming their poll was "hacked" (all in service of the parody). Commenters in particular liked the phrase "TEGAN DELETE THIS FFS," which gained over 4,400 likes and reactions, and user Andy Robertson wrote "I fear the Phrase "TEGAN DELETE THIS FFS!!" Will out live this thread…" (shown below, right). The group then posted a second poll which performed similarly to the first.[2]

British press began covering the poll, though not all were clear that the poll was meant in parody. Metro[3] posted an article about the poll as if it were real, as did The Poke.[5] Indy100[4] posted while acknowledging the parody.
