Bria Badu's "Natural Birth Control" Tweet refers to an infographic posted to Twitter that falsely claims that certain plants and herbs can prevent pregnancy.

Origin

On June 5th, 2019, Twitter user @MissBriaJanay^[1] tweeted, "Girls! Here a some natural birth control options" with an infographic (shown below). Tweet has since been deleted. It seems to have been taken from the site "Home Remedy Hacks."^[2]

Spread

Many Twitter users were quick to comment on the tweet saying that the information is harmful and false. On June 10th, 2019, Twitter user @gillie_cee^[4] tweeted, "LMAO if ginger tea acted as birth control this would be a world without Jamaicans" (shown below, left). The tweet gained over 1,100 likes and 600 retweets in a day. The next day @Botanygeek^[3] tweeted directly to Twitter saying, "Hi @Twitter , As a botanist I can tell you this tweet with 1000s of shares could result in the deaths of women. It needs taking down, fast" (shown below, right). The tweet gained over 21,400 likes and 8,300 retweets that day. On June 11th, the tweet was deleted or taken down.

That same day, Rebecca Watson uploaded a video to YouTube addressing each claim in the infographic explaining how each claim is false(shown below). The video gained over 4,600 views and 500 likes that day.
