Brazilian Miku refers to a series of fan art, animations and memes that imagine vocaloid character Hatsune Miku as Brazilian. The artworks depict Miku as a young tanned Brazilian woman wearing a yellow crop top with the flag of Brazil on it and short denim shorts with thong straps sticking out and with tan lines visible on her legs and shoulders. Spawned by a sketch by artist @ErinArtista, the fan art trend went viral onTwitter in August 2024.

Origin

On June 25th, 2024, artist @ErinArtista posted a an artwork of vocaloid character Hatsune Miku tanned with visible tan lines, wearing sunglasses on her head, a crop top with the flag of Brazil on it and short denim shorts, and holding a can of Guarana Antarctica soft drink in her hand. The artwork (shown below) garnered over 22,000 reposts and 102,000 likes on Twitter[1] in two months.

On August 14th, 2024, animator and TikTok[2] user @akioskdebap posted a short animation of Brazilian Miku dancing, titled "Brazilian Hatsune Miku!" The video (shown below) received over 2.4 million views and 376,000 likes in eight days.

On August 17th, 2024, artist Doodly (@thecat_mitsu) posted an artwork[3] inspired by @ErinArtista's art depicting Hatsune Miku as Brazilian. The fan art (shown below) accumulated over 12.9 million views, 24,000 reposts and 161,000 likes on Twitter in five days.

Later on August 17th, 2024, X[4] user @yuyuko_boobs reposted the Brazilian Miku TikTok animation to the platform, where it received over 3,200 reposts and 21,000 likes in five days.

In the following days, more artists on X posted fan art inspired by the TikTok video and @thecat_mitsu's artwork. For example, on August 19th, X[5] user @BecauseImAJinx posted one of the earliest notable fan art within the trend, with their version gaining over 2,800 reposts and 22,000 likes in three days (shown below).

Later on August 19th, 2024, @pirate_yuri posted an artwork[6] that garnered over 9,200 reposts and 67,000 likes in three days (shown below).

The trend maintained popularity on Twitter in late August 2024, with multiple artists sharing their versions of the character.

Spawned by the Brazilian Miku meme, the fan art trend achieved viral popularity on Twitter in late August 2024.

Brazilian Sadako

Along with the Brazilian-themed Hatsune Miku fanarts, other fictional characters were drawn by online artists in the same fashion, with Brazilian traits and imagery. One such artwork (see below, right), posted on October 19th, 2024, and depicting a Brazilian Sadako Yamamura, amassed huge popularity, to the point of inspiring its own trend of fanarts.
