Boys Wear It Daily, Girls Wear It Once A Year is a riddle that asks what the one thing is that boys wear daily, but girls wear only once a year. The riddle started circulating online as early as 2015 and went viral several times over the following years, including in late 2025. Multiple answers have been given for the riddle, including "the letter 'Y,'" as "Y" appears twice in the phrase "boys wear it daily," but only once in "girls wear it once a year." An alternative answer is "a South Indian garment known as an angavastram," which men wear almost daily but women do not.
Origin
The exact origin of the riddle is unclear. One of the earliest known mentions of the meme online was posted by Quora[1] user Shweta Mirani in 2015, giving the answer "unwashed jeans." The post inspired several alternative answers, including a user who claimed the riddle has no answer, and a user who gave the answer, “Men Carry Sperm everyday in their life and Women carry it one time a year Which is PREGNANCY."
On October 22nd, 2015, the riddle was posted to Brainly,[2] where the top answer given was, "In South India, several women desire to wear only white Lungi (half or evenfolded) & Vest or 'Angavastram' once in while occasionally or even once a year but their male counterpart wear very often and almost daily as it is their traditional clothing."

The riddle spread online over the following years, inspiring a variety of posts and answers, including comedic answers, as well as memes referencing it.
On July 20th, 2022, YouTuber[3] MECHANICAL MOTIVATOR posted a video answering several riddles, including the "boys wear it daily" riddle, garnering over 39,000 views in three years.
On April 4th, 2025, Facebook[4] user Nas World Tv posted a video asking the riddle to his partner, garnering over 1.5 million views in eight months.
On November 6th, TikToker[5] @holdendavenport posted a video sharing the riddle, garnering over 94,000 likes in eight months.
On December 6th, 2025, X[6] user @BalogunAbass12 posted the riddle, garnering over 7,600 likes in three weeks. That day, X[7] user @tysonphotoo answered "accountability," garnering over 1,100 likes in the same span of time.
On December 13th, Parade[8] published an article explaining the riddle with the "letter Y" answer.
