The exact first post based on the joke is currently unknown. On May 13th, 2019, Reddit user coolmax1234 posted the earliest known meme utilizing the joke (shown below, left),[1] with more examples appearing on Twitter on the same day.[2] On May 24th, 2019, Redditor Sloppy_Tommy posted the first viral version of the meme version in which the boys sleepover is represented as a pagan ritual. The post received more than 35,000 points (94% upvoted) and 340 comments in less than one month (shown below, left).[3]

The following month, on June 7th, the verified Twitter[4] account for the television show Love Island tweeted "Girl sleepovers: omg let's do face masks" and GIF of two men kissing, representing the Boys Sleepover. The post received more than 3,700 likes and 450 retweets in less than one month (shown below, center).

On June 15th, Redditor[5] lilnicky10 posted a variation featuring an image of the character Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz as the "Boys Sleepover." The post received more than 43,000 points (97% upvoted) and 170 comments in two days (shown below, right).
