Boyfish refers to an original content (OC) character who is canonically a "blasian" (Black and Asian) male with cyan hair, wearing a Nyan Cat T-shirt and other "scene kid" clothes. The character was created in 2023 on TikTok and Twitter / X accounts with the handle @boyfishhu. Boyfish generated fan art and a fandom online heading into 2025. Alternatively, Boyfish amassed criticism, initially over concerns that Boyfish's videos didn't give proper epilepsy warnings. Viral posts and memes about Boyfish also surfaced in late 2025, which often mocked the character for its epilepsy risk or being perceived by some as cringe.

Origin

"Boyfish" was first mentioned in a post on the @boyfishhu TikTok^[1] account on June 8th, 2023. However, a full character design was shared by @boyfishhu until November 16th, 2023, with a TikTok^[2] video that showed the process of drawing the image. The video received over 2,900 likes in two years.

The image listed attributes and facts about Boyfish, including his age (20), his status as a married gay autistic femboy and his love for "anything, marshmallows and chocolate."

Boyfish's creator began posting the character on the X^[3] account @boyfishhu on September 3rd, 2024.

Also in September 2024, Boyfish's creator made a Straw Page ^[5] site for the character.^[4]

On October 4th, 2024, TikToker^[6] @boyfishhu shared an animation meme that showed Boyfish, gaining over 25,800 likes in a year.

Boyfish videos continued to go viral on TikTok heading into 2025. For instance, on March 18th, TikToker^[7] @boyfishhu shared an animation meme with the character, gaining over 191,700 likes in eight months.

On September 18th, 2025, TikToker^[8] @olivertherizzler5 shared a video of a Happy Tree Friends character seizing with a text overlay caption reading, "That one bro with epilepsy saw a Boyfish video," gaining over 74,900 likes.

On November 6th, TikToker^[9] @best.animator.oat shared a video showing themself making an Incredible Gassy redraw of Boyfish dubbed "Boyfish Gassy," gaining over 22,600 likes in five days.

Later on November 6th, 2025, TikToker^[10] @best.animator.oat shared the fully made "Boyfish Gassy" animation, gaining over 8,200 likes in five days.

On November 9th, TikToker^[11] @burritoforbrains shared a video that criticized the Boyfish Gassy animation and comments left on the video, like one redraw of Boyfish as a piece of Kevin Spencer Cerebral Palsy Wheelchair Fan Art. The video had a text overlay caption that read, "It gets to a point," and the video's description read, "Ok, wrap it up, the Boyfish hate is over." Over two days, the video received over 38,300 likes.

Also on November 9th, 2025, X^[12] user @ohmytoons tweeted a short video clip that was a Boyfish fan animation. They captioned it, "Boyfish fan art [I don't care] if u don't like him." Over two days, it received over 3,400 likes.

On November 10th, X^[13] user @ginnnnnn05 quote-tweeted the abovementioned post, attaching an image that read, "WARNING laughing at people's characters is strictly forbidden." The post gained over 11,000 likes in a day.
