Boy Turn That Clairo Off and Grab U A Beer is a catchphrase used to tell a man he should not be listening to the pop artist Clairo. The phrase was coined by X / Twitter user @user638292079 via a post made in July 2024. The post was screenshotted and garnered viral spread online over the following months, becoming the subject of memes in relation to men who listen to Clairo. It was further popularized on TikTok in February 2025, along with a similar yet opposite phrase, "Boy turn that Clairo up and get yourself a beer."
Origin
On July 23rd, 2024, X user @user638292079 posted, "boy turn that clairo off and grab u a beer," garnering an unknown number of likes and reposts before it was deleted. A screenshot of the post was reposted later that day by X[1] user @drink2beers, garnering over 49,000 likes and 4,300 reposts in seven months.

Spread
The image continued to spread over the following months, inspiring memes. On October 29th, 2024, Instagram[2] user deathbyvapejuice reposted the screenshot, garnering over 226,000 likes in four months. On December 5th, X[3] user @gayforgogo posted a screenshot of the Clairo song "Sexy to Someone" on their 2024 Wrapped playlist, writing, "boy turn that clairo off and grab u a beer," garnering over 1,300 likes in two months.
On February 12th, 2025, TikToker[4] @wanitahulyana posted a video of a man at a Clairo concert singing along with the songs, captioning the video, "boy turn that clairo off and grab a beer bahaha," garnering over 500,000 views in a week.
On February 14th, TikToker[5] @verboten.intern posted a lip dub video set to the song "Bags" by Clairo captioned, "Boy turn that clairo UP and get yourself a beer," garnering over 1.2 million views in five days.
On February 17th, 2025, TikToker[6] @mcdonaldshamburglar posted a photo of someone wearing a shirt with the phrase on it at a Clairo concert, garnering over 465,000 views in two days. On February 18th, Instagram[7] user botoxqueen1968 posted a screenshot of the video by @verboten.intern, garnering over 18,500 likes in under 24 hours.
