#BooksWithALetterMissing is a Twitter hashtag associated with parodies of book titles that are missing one letter from their original titles, in a similar vein to One Letter Off Movie Posters.

Origin

On August 2nd, 2011,On August 2nd, 2011, Twitter user Tommy Donbavand tweeted two altered titles for the books Catch 22 and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, accompanied by the hashtag #bookswithalettermissing.


Spread

On the following day, Donbavand posted an article on his personal blog,[5] announcing that the hashtag had inspired thousands of tweets and was trending around the world (shown below).

On August 4th, 2011, The Huffington Post[2] published an article about the hashtag, highlighting several notable tweets. On the following day, Tommy Donbavand[4] shared a PDF compilation of 500 of his favorite titles that had been tweeted. On January 17th, 2012, the independent book publisher Allison & Busby[3] published a blog post about literary hashtags, including a mention of "#bookswithalettermissing." On June 29th, 2013, Twitter user @darth[6] posted an edited book cover for the the "Unbearable Lightness of Bing" book title (shown below).

Over the course of the next 72 hours, @darth posted 30 additional book covers inspired by #bookswithalettermissing tweets. On July 1st, 2013, the Internet news site The Daily Dot[1] published an article highlighting several of @darth's photoshopped book covers (shown below).
