About
Bones Day or No Bones Day refers to a series of videos where TikToker @jongraz picks his pug Noodle up from bed in the morning and then puts him down to see if he'll stand, making the day a "bones day," or flop back into bed, making the day a "no bones day," meaning Noodle has decided to act as if his bones don't work or exist. The TikToker started posting these videos regularly on August 13th, 2021. They went viral in October of that year, inspiring skits and videos about "bones days" and "no bones days" on the platform, usually depicting bones days as good luck and no bones days as bad luck.
Origin
On August 13th, 2021, TikToker[1] @jongraz (Jonathan) posted a video sitting behind his sleeping pug, Noodle. Through narration, he describes how it's time for "another round of No Bones, a game where we find out if Noodle has bones this morning or not." Jonathan picks Noodle up off his bed then releases him. Instead of standing up, Noodle flops back down as if his bones don't work (shown below). The video gained over 2 million views in two months (shown below).
Jonathan continued to post bones day videos occasionally over the next month. On September 14th, he posted a video playing the game with Noodle where he sits down when dropped, meaning a bones day, gaining over 600,000 views in a month (shown below). After seeing Noodle sit, Jonathan says excitedly "buy that lottery ticket, file that divorce, quit that job, you have good luck" because it's a bones day
Bones day videos quickly became the most popular content on Jonathan's page, with each gaining a substantial number of views. On September 22nd, he posted a video declaring a no bones day, gaining over 2 million views in roughly a month (shown below, left). On October 4th, another no bones day video was posted, gaining over 10 million views in two weeks (shown below, right).
Spread
The bones day videos grew significantly prominent in October 2021. Around this time, TikTokers began making videos referencing each type of day under the hashtags "#bonesday" and "#nobonesday." The videos depict bones days as good luck, and no bones days as bad luck, as Jonathan often jokes about in his videos. For example, on October 13th, TikToker @kokorokolo1 posted a video showing regret for going out on a no bones day, gaining over a million views in five days (shown below, left). On October 15th, TikToker @urmomslinguini posted a skit about being hyped that it's a bones day, gaining over 4.3 million views in three days (shown below, right).
On October 16th, TikToker @andrewdaycamp posted a video showing off an invention he made that tells him whether it's a bones day or a no bones day, gaining over 2 million views in two days (shown below).
On October 18th, Jonathan posted a video of Noodle declaring it a bone day, gaining over 3.3 million views in six hours (shown below). Multiple news outlets reported on the trend that day, including the New York Post[2] and Distractify.[3]
Noodle the Pug's Death
On December 3rd, 2022, TikToker[4] @jongraz posted a video announcing that Noodle died in his arms at 14 years old. The video gained over 18 million views in two days (shown below).
It has been the privilege of my life to care for Noodle these past 7 years. The sweetest man there has ever been and will ever be. ❤️
