"Bohemian Rhapsody" is a 1975 rock song by the British rock 'n' roll band Queen written by Freddie Mercury. The song's blend of opera, ballad and hard rock has made the song one of Queen's most popular songs, remaining popular in various capacities for decades. The song also shares its title with the 2018 Queen biopic, which was a box office success that earned several Academy Awards.

Origin

Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" was released in the United Kingdom on October 31st, 1975 as the first single from their album A Night At the Opera. The single stayed at the top of the U.K. singles charts for nine weeks and sold more than a million copies in less than four months.^[1]

In November 1975, the band shot a promotional video for the song, which some consider one of the first proper music videos (shown below).

Wayne's World

On February 14th, 1992, the film Wayne's World_, based on a series of "_Saturday Night Live":/memes/saturday-night-live/ sketches, was released in the United States. In one scene, the characters listen to "Bohemian Rhapsody" while driving. The scene became one of the film's most popular and helped the song reach number two on the Billboard Hot 100 music charts.

Remix Videos

With the launching of YouTube, the song became a popular source of fan parody and remix videos. On August 23rd, 2017, YouTuber Krikonn posted LEGO-animated music video of the song. within 12 years, the post received more than 2 million views (shown below, left).

Two years later, The Muppets YouTube account posted a video of the Muppet characters performing the song. Within 10 years, the post received more than 73 million views (shown below, right).

Film

On October 24th, 2018, the film biopic based on the story of Mercury and Quee entitled Bohemian Rhapsody. was released in theaters. Initially, the source of controversy, both due to the perceived erasure of Mercury's homosexuality in the film's trailer^[2] and, later, for a series of reports of director Bryan Singer's firing from the film and the director's sexual misconduct allegations, the film became a box office success, grossing more than $865 million worldwide.^[3]

The film was nominated for five Academy Awards, including best actor.

And This is Where the Operatic Section Comes In is a memorable quote uttered by Freddie Mercury in the 2018 biopic drama Bohemian Rhapsody, which follows the story of the British rock band Queen. In the film, while recording the song "Bohemian Rhapsody," which takes influence from Operatic musical styles, Mercury says the quote, and a clip of the moment has been used in a series of video remixes and reaction images.
