Bo Burnham's "Microwave Popcorn" or I Put the Packet on the Glass is a song by Bo Burnham about making microwave popcorn from his 2022 Inside special. In December 2022, a section of the song where Burnham gets frustrated with himself went viral on TikTok as a source for lip dub videos joking about frustrating or one-sided conversations or having a conversation that a third party is chiming into.
Origin
On June 2nd, 2022, Bo Burnham uploaded the song "Microwave Popcorn" from his Inside special to YouTube,[1] garnering over 856,000 views in six months (shown below).

In late November, TikTokers started using a section of the song where Burnham has a faux frustrating exchange with himself in lip dub skits about having frustrating conversations with people. It's unclear who posted the first video using the sound, but one of the earliest known videos using it was posted on November 25th, 2022 by TikToker[2] @orionsbelt19, garnering over 674,000 views in a month (shown below).

The original sound became increasingly popular over the course of the month in similar skits. On November 30th, TikToker[3] @definitelynotzl posted a video about having a conversation with their autistic friend using the sound, garnering over 2 million views in a month. On December 4th, TikToker[4] @ozzyisobel posted a video using the sound, garnering over 5.5 million views in two weeks (shown below, left). On December 7th, JoJo Siwa posted a video to TikTok[5] using the sound, garnering over 27.6 million views in two weeks (shown below, right).

On December 17th, TikToker[6] @pierson posted a video using the audio, garnering over 15 million views in five days. On December 21st, YouTuber[7] and animator Nutshell Animations posted an animation to the sound, garnering over 208,000 views in a day (shown below).
