Black Girl Confidence Bop refers to a viral video of TikToker Andie, aka @realistichuman, a white person, dancing to the song "Put Your Records On" by Corinne Bailey Rae under the caption, "This song is such a little Black girl confidence bop." The video became the subject of reactions and parodies starting in May 2023, with many finding it strange, problematic and cringe for a white person to use the caption, inspiring the TikToker to delete the video. The video continued to inspire parodies in July 2023, including by TikToker @alpha.pookie.

Origin

On an unknown date prior to May 26th, 2023, TIkToker^[1] @realistichuman, aka Andie (he/they), posted a video where he dances to the song "Put Your Records On" by Corinne Bailey Rae, captioned, "This song is such a little Black girl confidence bop," garnering an unknown number of views before it was deleted. It has been re-uploaded to TikTok numerous times, including by TikToker^[2] @cutefrilled on July 6th, garnering over 5.6 million views in a month (shown below).

The video became the subject of criticism, reactions and parodies on TikTok in May 2023. On May 26th, 2023, TikToker^[3] @potheadmelly posted a reaction to the video, garnering over 890,000 views in two months (shown below, left). On June 6th, TiKToker^[4] @therealmrq posted a reaction to a now-deleted reaction to the video, garnering over 50,000 views in a month (shown below, right).

On July 9th, TikToker^[5] @fohunna69 posted a duet to a re-upload of the video where he dances in the same way as Andie, garnering over 100,000 views in three weeks (shown below).

On July 24th, TikToker^[6] @luv_cheeds posted a parody of the video, garnering over 1.4 million views in three days (shown below, left). On July 26th, TikToker^[7] @alpha.pookie posted a video parodying the original, garnering over 1.9 million views in a day (shown below, right).

That day, TikToker^[8] @_so.you.dont.have.to posted a video showing @alpha.pookie's video side-by-side with the original, garnering over 3.6 million views in a day (shown below).
