Bimpson is an animated character starring in a viral video created by artist Dylan Woodley in late June 2020. In the video, a bulbous, pink 3D-animated rendering of Kirby Griffin, a character amalgamation of Peter Griffin from Family Guy and Kirby, is shown performing a song on stage in which he repeatedly sings his name to an audience of similar-looking characters.
Origin
Prior to the release of the video, Dylan Woodley began posting images of a bald Peter Griffin that looks similar to Kirby. For example, on April 8th, he tweeted [3] the image with a muscular physique. He wrote, "quarantine been giving me lots of time to work on my body" (shown below, left).
Later that month, on April 26th, he tweeted[4] a 3D rendering of the character with the caption, "youre messing with the wrong bimpsons" (shown below, right).
On June 30th, 2020, YouTuber Dylan Woodley submitted a video titled "Bimpson" (shown below). Within 24 hours, the video accumulated upwards of 321,000 views and 700 comments.
Precursor
On August 15th, 2018, Twitter[5] @psychicpebble tweeted the earliest known version of Kirby Griffin. The post received more than 19,000 likes and 3,000 retweets in less in than two years (shown below).
Spread
On July 1st, 2020, Redditor[1] JJRamone posted the video on the /r/videos subreddit. The post received more than 26,000 points (86% upvoted) and 1,400 comments in less than two days.
Over the next two days, Redditors shared memes featuring the character. For example, on July 1st, Redditor[2] Here-For-The-Comment shared a Who's That Pokémon meme featuring Bimpson (shown below, left). Throughout the day, others shared memes featuring the character (examples below, center and right).
