Billy or the Billy Bundle by mPhase is a free bundle on the Roblox avatar shop consisting of cosmetic items that make your character look like a stickman. The bundle was created by user mPhase in mid-August 2023 after Roblox allowed some users the ability to make their own full avatar bodies and heads to post on the marketplace. The bundle became notably popular the day it was release and was removed from the store by Roblox that same day, causing backlash online and demands to bring back Billy. Some believed Billy was removed because of tutorials showcasing how to use the Billy head to make a fake, free version of the Headless bundle. On August 21st, Billy was returned to the marketplace, the creator claiming he was removed because he was too skinny.

Origin

On August 16th, 2023, the @Roblox X^[1] account, formerly Twitter, made a post announcing that they would allow "members of the existing UGC Program the ability to make their own full avatar bodies and heads for the Roblox Marketplace," garnering over 2,800 likes in eight days. On August 18th, Roblox^[2] user mPhase released the "Billy" bundle to the marketplace, a free bundle containing cosmetic items that let the player dress like a stickman (shown below).

Spread

Billy became notably popular the day it was released. For example, on August 18th, 2023, TikToker^[3] @penyayz posted a video captioned, "IM SEEING BILLY EVERYWHERE," showing numerous characters wearing the Billy bundle, garnering over 3 million views in six days (shown below).

Free Headless With Billy

That same day, some TikTokers began posting tutorials on how to use the head of the Billy bundle to make a fake, free version of "Headless," a seasonal Roblox bundle that is only available for purchase around Halloween that makes your avatar appear headless that is notable for its high price. For example, that day, TikToker^[4] @mqna69 posted a tutorial that gained over 250,000 views in six days (shown below).

Billy Bundle Deleted / #BringBackBilly

On August 18th, 20223, the day the bundle was released, it was removed from the Roblox marketplace. The removal was shared across social media that day, including an X^[5] post by @RBXNews_ that garnered over 36,100 likes and a post to /r/Roblox^[6] that garnered over 2,300 upvotes. That day, X^[7] user @swaggyerror1 and Redditor u/AshR2763 made posts using the phrase "RIP Billy," garnering over 580 likes and 874 upvotes on /r/Roblox^[8] in six days (shown below, left and right).

Some users believed that Billy was removed because of the "free Headless hack." On August 20th, TikToker^[9] @willyandgaming posted a meme suggesting this, garnering over 3.1 million views in four days (shown below, left). TikToker^[10] @lanaslifeee posted a video claiming this on the same day, garnering over 1.7 million views in four days (shown below, right).

The Billy bundle's removal inspired Roblox players to post calls for its return, some using the hashtag "#BringBackBilly" to show their support (examples shown below. posted to TikTok).^[11][12]

Billy Bundle Returns

On August 21st, 2023, the Billy bundle was returned to the Roblox marketplace. That day, X^[13] user @RBXNews_ announced the return along with a graphic, garnering over 33,900 likes in three days (shown below). The bundle creator, mPhase, shared the real reason for the deletion on his download page, writing, " Billy got deleted because he was too skinny. Now he's back with a new look!"
