Big Dick Is Back in Town is a catchphrase that appears on a white sweater worn by an old man known as Big Dick who is occasionally seen in King's Cross in Sydney, Australia. The man has been photographed several times since first being photographed in 2013, inspiring image macros and memes using the photos as exploitables. In 2018, the sweater was drawn on to Konata Izumi from Lucky Star, which received viral spread, inspiring others to draw characters in the sweater.

Origin

On January 5th, 2013, Twitter^[1] user @dannydutch posted a photograph of an old man with a briefcase, hat and big white crewneck sweater that reads, "Big dick is back in town," garnering two likes in nine years (shown below, left). This is the earliest known image of the man. That year, Tumblr^[2] user meme-meme posted another image of the man, garnering over 110 notes (shown below, right). It was reposted by Twitter^[3] user @yorick___ on December 6th, garnering over 300 likes and 400 retweets in nine years. The back of his sweater reads "And loving It," as shown in several photos of Big Dick.^[18]

Identity

The full identity of Big Dick is unknown. On June 27th, 2014, a Redditor made a post to /r/sydney^[4] titled, "Does any one actually know the awesome old dude with the 'Big Dick Back In Town' jumper that hangs in the Cross?" asking for more information about the man, writing, "Don't want to disrespect his privacy – but does any one know this dude? Trying to get in touch for a cool creative project." Several users commented claiming they've seen him in King's Cross, Sydney, Australia. User Captain_Fantastik commented, "I see him in the fortune of war on Sundays sometimes. Spoke to him briefly once and he gave me a high five. One of the highlights of my life." User Wbrincat commented, "He used to be a regular in my dick smith store in York St back in the early 2000's. Apparently he used to be an artist."

Numerous commenters online have purportedly interacted with Big Dick, many saying he's grumpy and aggressive when approached. In 2016, a Redditor wrote, "Mate I saw a woman walk up to him with her phone out and ask 'can I have a photo?' and he responded swiftly 'no fuck off immediately' and scurried away."^[17] However, some people have managed to get photographs with him.^[20]

Spread

New photos of Big Dick would appear online over the course of the 2010s. On February 27th, 2014, Twitter^[5] user @totalfratmove posted a new photo of Big Dick, showing him walking, garnering over 1,500 likes and 700 retweets in eight years (shown below, left). On December 5th, 2015, LadBible posted an image of him on Facebook,^[16] captioned, "He's back!" garnering over 8,200 shares and 87,000 reactions in six years. On January 18th, 2016, a Redditor posted a new photo of the man to /r/sydney,^[6] garnering over 90 upvotes in six months (shown below, right).

That August, a Facebook^[19] page about the man was started, but it hasn't had a post since 2017. On January 21st, 2017, Instagram^[7] user realfunwow posted a drawing of Big Dick, garnering around 60 likes in six years. On September 12th, a Redditor posted a photo of Big Dick yawning to /r/sydney,^[15] garnering over 100 upvotes in five years (shown below).

Prior to May 17th, 2018, a drawing of Konata Izumi wearing the sweater by Know Your Meme^[8] user Joseph Mother went viral around 4chan, Twitter and Reddit (shown below, left). The drawing was uploaded to KYM on May 18th, 2018 by the user along with an explanation of its virality. It is unknown where it was originally posted. A day earlier on May 17th, artist lushsux posted a photo of some graffiti artwork of the drawing to Twitter,^[9] garnering over 5,400 likes and 700 retweets in four years (shown below, right).

On January 20th, 2020, Instagram^[10] user meme.flicks posted a recent photo of Big Dick with a "Return of the King" caption on the bottom, suggesting a new photo of him hadn't been uploaded online for a considerable amount of time. On January 30th, a Redditor posted an image of Big Dick sitting in a restaurant to /r/blursedimages,^[11] garnering over 17,800 upvotes in two years (shown below).

On May 25th, 2021, Instagram^[12] user meguminfushiguro posted a redraw of a Big Dick image showing Satoru Gojo from Jujutsu Kaisen in the sweater, garnering over 8,000 likes in a year (shown below). On September 24th, YouTuber Danny Duncan posted a photo to Instagram^[13] of himself wearing a shirt with the phrase on it, garnering over 60,000 likes in a year.

On June 3rd, 2022, Instagram^[14] page almost.friday reposted the image of Big Dick yawning, captioned, "remember me?" garnering over 10,000 likes in three months.
