About
Big Bad Wolf vs. Leprechaun refers to a series of powerscaling memes and debates about who would win in a fight between the fictional wolf character Big Bad Wolf (who appears in several cautionary fairy tales such as The Three Little Pigs) or the Irish folklore and supernatural being known as the leprechaun. The debate started after a viral video in 2021 but notably became more prominent as a mainstream trend in early March 2024 with the French-speaking community on TikTok calling it Loup Malicieux vs. Farfadet Maléfique. Posts about the debate often include a French-dubbed version of the Domain Expansion fan edits, treating the folklore characters as Jujutsu Kaisen characters.
Origin
On September 1st, 2021, TikTok[1] user @arthur_rbl posted a video joking about an "evil leprechaun" being in his house, as the music "Farfadet Maléfique" (evil leprechaun) by Miguel Boca is playing in the background. The post (shown below, left) amassed over 18,700 likes in three years.
The earliest mention of the Big Bad Wolf vs. Leprechaun debate started on March 5th, 2024, after TikTok[2] user @cerisis posted a French-dubbed Domain Expansion fan edit focused on "Loup Malicieux" (Big Bad Wolf) dissing the Leprechaun, saying he is the strongest. The post (shown below, right) garnered more than 2 million plays and 224,000 likes in a week.
Spread
Over a week after @cerisis's Loup Malicieux fan edit, several other memes and parodies about Big Bad Wolf vs. Leprechaun went viral on TikTok. For example, on March 6th, 2024, TikTok[3] user @e.o.tg_09 uploaded a video comparing the two fictional characters' skills to see who'd win in a fight. The post (shown below, left) received roughly 10,000 plays and 281 likes in a week.
On March 5th, TikTok[4] user @petitetremalicieux posted a fan edit of both characters (shown below, right), which garnered more than 342,000 plays and 65,000 likes in a week.
