About

Bhai Maro Mujhe Maro or Waqt Badal Diye refers to a viral video of a Pakistani cricket fan complaining about his team's loss after the India Vs. Pakistan World Cup Cricket Match in 2019. The man in the video, named Momin Saqib, expressed his displeasure at the loss during a television interview with Dunya Media Group PK’s journalist Azhar Javaid in Manchester, UK.

Origin

On 16th June 2019, a World Cup cricket match took place between India and Pakistan. India's team beat Pakistan by 89 runs, maintaining an unbeaten streak of 7 wins against the rival team. Soon after the match, Pakistani cricket fans were interviewed outside the stadium, including Momin Saqib, a graduate of King's College in London. A clip of his interview can be accessed via reupload to YouTube[1] on March 11th, 2020 by "24HeADS Online by Faizan Shah," where it has gathered over 4 million plays in two years (seen below).



Famous lines from the interview include;

  • Bhai maro mujha maro (transl. "Bro, hit me, hit me").
  • Mujhe pata chala hai kal raat ye log burger khate rahe hain, kal raat ye log pizze khaate rahe hain
    (transl. "I learnt that last night these guys (Pakistani players) were eating burgers and pizzas).
  • Waqt badal diya, jazbaat badal diye, jindagi badal di (transl. The era changed, the emotions changed, my life changed).

Spread

The video soon went viral on Twitter, with people commenting on how funny Momin Saqib's delivery of his rant was. On June 16th, 2019, Twitter[2] user @moronhumor posted the aforementioned video and gathered over 9,000 likes in over three years (seen below).

On June 18th, Twitter[3] user @lvlylilies posted the video as well, gathering over 3,000 likes in over three years (seen below).

The quote "Bhai maro mujhe maro" began appearing in tweets and meme templates in consecutive years as well.[4] [5] On June 24th, 2020, Twitter[6] user @Agrimonious posted a tweet alongside the line "Ek dum waqt badal diya, jazbaat badal diye, zindagi badal di," and gathered over 8,000 likes in over two years (seen below, left). Twitter[7] user @YangerINC posted a tweet using the line "bhai maro mujhe," gathering over 4,000 likes in two years (seen below, right).
