Bernie Sanders' Twitch Channel is a Twitch channel created by the United States senator Bernard "Bernie" Sanders. The creation of the channel prompted a series of jokes based on the idea that the politician will be streaming video games.
Origin
On June 26th, 2019, United States senator and presidential candidate Bernie Sanders created an official channel Bernie_Sanders on Twitch.[1]
Spread
On the same day, multiple news websites reported on the channel, including articles by Vox[2] and PC Gamer.[3]
On June 26th, 2019, Redditor Agentstryker_21 posted the first known meme referencing the news which gained over 2,800 upvotes.[7] On June 27th, 2019, Redditor OatstheGoat posted an image of Bernie edited into the PewDiePie's N-Word Bridge episode (shown below).[4] The post gained over 60,400 upvotes in one day. Additionally, the meme has also been reposted by several popular accounts on Instagram.[5][6]
In the following hours, more memes based on the idea that Bernie Sanders will be streaming videogames were posted online, primarily in meme subreddits.
