Ben Affleck's Raya Response refers to a viral video in which TikTok user @NivineJay claims she matched with actor Ben Affleck on dating app Raya but unmatched him because she thought the profile was fake. The video is spliced with a video message Affleck allegedly sent to her on Instagram saying "Nivine, why did you unmatch me? It's me." The video divided users on whether or not it was genuine and inspired parodies.

Origin

On May 3rd, 2021, TikTok user @NivineJay posted a video alleging that she matched with Ben Affleck on dating app Raya, unmatched him because she thought the profile was fake, and received a message from Affleck assuring her he was real. The clip gained over 1.2 million likes and 7.7 million views (shown below).

Spread

The video amused users, particularly Affleck's reading of "It's me." User @putinaspliff^[1] joked, "ben affleck refuses to hide his mid life crisis and i respect him for that," gaining over 5,200 retweets and 57,000 likes (shown below, left). @nicolebyer^[2] joked, "I need Ben Affleck on my podcast Why Won’t You Date Me? We can do an episode called Why did you unmatch me," gaining over 400 retweets and 13,000 likes (shown below, right).

Others made parodies of the video. User @blurayangel^[3] posted a still from Batman vs. Superman parodying the video, gaining over 400 retweets and 4,400 likes (shown below, left). User @writtenbyahmad^[4] posted stills from Parasite with Affleck photoshopped in, gaining over 3,900 retweets and 38,000 likes (shown below, right).

The Wrap^[5] reported that some users suspected the video was faked using Cameo, but Affleck does not have a Cameo profile.
