Overview
Begging Leftist Comic Artists To Stop Adding Unnecessary Text is a viral tweet that inspired a meme trend in webcomic and leftist communities on X / Twitter in late June 2024. The catchphrase and a red crossed-out version of a Haus of Decline comic was posted by X account @LinkofSunshine alongside a post commending conservative webcomic artist Stonetoss for his brevity. Haus of Decline's assertion that they "straight up don't like" @LinkofSunshine and don't appreciate their critique led to a trend in which people posted crossed-out versions of webcomics alongside the phrase, "on my knees begging leftist comic artists to stop adding unnecessary text holy shit."
Background
On March 19th, 2023, Twitter[1] webcomic artist Haus of Decline posted a comic showing a man selling more lemonade by marketing it as "anti-woke" lemonade. The post gathered over 61,000 likes in a year (seen below).
On June 21st, 2024, X[2] user @LinkofSunshine posted a version of the meme with the dialogue crossed out in red in three out of the four panels, gathering over 21,000 likes in three days (seen below, left). The user also compared Haus of Decline's comic to one by Stonetoss, calling him a "Nazi dumbfuck" while commending his brevity, and gathering over 4,000 likes in three days (seen below, right).[3]
Developments
Haus of Decline and @LinkofSunshine continued to spar in the replies to the post on June 22nd, 2024, with Haus of Decline writing, "This isn't that much text. I just think you don't like to read, which would explain your general vibe of abject stupidity." The artist also called @LinkofSunshine's viral Firebomb a Walmart tweet "one of the dumbest tweets ever made."[6]
In response to @LinkofSunshine saying that she should "learn how to take any minor criticism without devolving into personal attacks," Haus of Decline wrote, "but I straight up don't like you on a personal level," gathering over 34,000 likes in two days (seen below, right).[7]
Spread
Other X users posted crossed-out versions of webcomics in reference to Haus of Decline and @LinkofSunshine's argument, as seen in a post by @Liv_Agar[4] on June 23rd, 2024, which gathered over 12,000 likes in a day (seen below, left). Also on June 23rd, X[5] user @beowyfe made a similar post crossing out @LinkofSunshine's tweets, gathering over 3,000 likes in a day (seen below, right).
