Origin

On January 11th, 2019, Bangladeshi financial service provider "Nagad" held a celebration party for the Bangladeshi state official Zunaid Ahmed Palak being reelected as the State Minister for ICT Division.[1] During the event, Zunaid Ahmed Palak and several other guests posed for a group photo by holding a knife in preparation to cut a cake, with one man failing to put his hand with the others.

Spread

On the same day, Redditor wildluciddreaming posed a three-panel image based on the photograph to /r/funny subreddit, gaining over 80 upvotes in six months.[2] Additionally, the image has also received spread among Bangladeshi and Indian Internet users.



On January 13th, 2019, Redditor missmewgayshit poste the first known English-language meme based on the image to /r/PewdiepieSubmissions subreddit,[3] where it gained over 42,500 upvotes (shown below).



In the following days, the image received significant spread on Reddit, with notable examples posted in /r/freefolk,[4] /r/historymeme,[5] /r/dankmemes[6] and other subreddits.
