Baka Got A Weird Case, Why Is He Around? is a viral catchphrase that originated from Kendrick Lamar's 2024 diss track against Drake, "Not Like Us" during their rap feud. The line supposedly refers to accusations that Travis Savoury (aka Baka Not Nice) committed crimes against women but is still currently associated with OVO, Drake's music label. The phrase went viral on Twitter / X in May 2024 in the days following the song's release.

Origin

On May 4th, 2024, Kendrick Lamar released his song "Not Like Us," a diss track against Drake. At the 0:54 timestamp, Kendrick raps, "And Baka got a weird case, why is he around?" in reference to rapper and former security guard Travis Savoury, aka Baka Not Nice (seen below).^[1]

The line is supposedly a reference to Baka Not Nice's legal troubles. In 2014, he was arrested for allegedly forcing a 22-year-old woman into prostitution. The next year, he pleaded guilty to assaulting the woman, but the human trafficking charges were dropped because the accuser refused to testify.^[2]

Memes about the line "Baka got a weird case, why is he around" began making the rounds online following the release of Kendrick's song, with X^[3] user @FATHER_CLEF posting a meme from Dragon Ball Z on May 8th, 2024, to double down on Kendrick's question, gathering over 30,000 likes in a week (seen below, left).

On May 9th, X^[4] user @Yamscasino posted an image of Special Agent Benson from Law & Order: SVU alongside the catchphrase, gathering over 20,000 likes in five days (seen below, right).

On May 12th, 2024, X^[5] user @ElectionLegal posted a Thinking About Other Women meme alongside the caption, "Her: He’s probably thinking about other girls / Him: Baka got a weird case, why is he around?" The post gathered over 11,000 likes in two days (seen below, top).
