About

The Badussy War is a "Stan Twitter" TikTok trend about an imaginary war regarding the '-ussy' variant 'Badussy.' TikTokers engaging in the trend share black-and-white "war footage" using photoshopped images of celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Cardi B, Trisha Paytas, James Charles, Nicki Minaj, Kris Jenner, Jiafei and other feminine or LGBTQ+ meme icons to make them look vintage as if from the 1800s. Creators also remix their names to resemble imagined Badussy War generals, soldiers and colonels, such as "Cardiac B. Arrest." TikToks surfaced in late 2021 although the lore recites that the war took place from 1904 to 1991.

Origin

According to the Badussy War Wiki,[1] the war started in 1903 when "Cardiac B. Arrest, supreme queen of Bussyland, had a meeting with Queen Abby Lee of the ADLC" to discuss a trade route between "the capital of Bussyland, Cardiville, and the capital of The ALDC, Maddiopolis." The meeting escalated, prompting Cardiac B. Arrest to pull Queen Abby Lee's wig off. From this, in 1904, "The Barbs, The Twinks and The Dancers (Abby's army) crossed the Barbussy border and invaded Bussyland." [1]

The first-known video about the Badussy War was uploaded on November 7th, 2021, by TikToker[2] cardibbq who stated in text overlay, "Rare picture of Cardinal Bacillus. She was shot by Nicki Minaj in 1894 in Badussy War." Over the course of eight months, the video received roughly 1.4 million plays and 206,700 likes (shown below). Additionally, the TikTok used the Slowed + Reverb remix of the song "Pluto Projector" by Rex Orange County that became the primary sound[9] in the trend.

Spread

On November 20th, 2021, TikToker[3] aybeslays added to the lore, posting a video that claimed to show "tesla honda civic dunn, a scientist teacher who saved her students from an explosion due to the badussy war in 1945, her last words were 'fun fact actually really really sad fact.'" In eight months, the video received roughly 528,900 plays and 117,300 likes (shown below, left). On November 21st, 2021, TikToker[4] aybeslays posted another Badussy War TikTok, showing a photoshopped image of a vintage Nicki Minaj. The video earned roughly 2.8 million plays and 737,400 likes in eight months (shown below, right).

The Badussy War was referenced by Twitter users in November 2021. For instance, Twitter[5] user wihajooon shared a screenshot of aybeslays' TikTok[4] on November 22nd, 2021. Badussy War lore continued to grow into December 2021 when TikToker[6] nessabarrettqueefshart posted a video, earning roughly 215,300 plays and 42,600 likes in seven months (shown below, left).

In early 2022, Badussy War content peaked on TikTok in many videos earning upwards of 1 million plays and subsequently adding more characters and references to the lore. For instance, on April 13th, 2022, TikToker[7] dojacatsoldvape posted "Rare Footage from the Badussy War," earning roughly 1.2 million plays and 319,400 likes in three months (shown below, right).

The trend continued into mid-2022 as Badussy War videos were made by creators on other platforms. For instance, on July 19th, 2022, the Instagram[8] account shook.yt shared its own Badussy War video that received roughly 25,900 likes in one day (shown below).
