About
Bad The Walking Dead Edits refers to a trend present on TikTok in which video creators shitpost poorly made fan edits of The Walking Dead using odd filters from CapCut that distort the characters and scenes. Many of the edits make the characters look girly, bulge their eyes or add floating DVD logos, among other nonsensical effects. The edits primarily focus on the characters Rick Grimes, Shane Walsh and Negan Smith. A common scene and phrase re-edited in the edits is They're In The Woods which was said by the character Shane Walsh. Many of the video creators joked about selling the edits on freelancer platforms like Fiverr. The trend started in mid-2022 and continued into 2023, coinciding with the show's finale. It was started by TikToker Cookie King. Inherently, the trend is reminiscent of YouTube Poop content.
Origin
Starting in early 2022, TikToker[1] Cookie King on his alt account @clashedpr started posting The Walking Dead memes. Going into July 2022, TikToker Cookie King's The Walking Dead edits became more nonsensical, using various CapCut templates and schizoposting signifiers. For instance, on July 20th, 2022, the TikToker[2] posted his first nonsensical The Walking Dead edit using CapCut filters and other contextless imagery, gaining roughly 61,600 plays and 5,600 likes in six months (shown below).
Spread
TikToker Cookie King continued the nonsensical edit style in the months that followed, gaining more engagement as time went on. For instance, on July 27th, 2022, he posted a TikTok[3] that made Rick Grimes have a baby face and makeup, gaining roughly 6,600 plays in a year and a half (shown below).
Two months later, on September 11th, Cookie King posted a similar TikTok[4] that was a slightly altered version of the first video, earning roughly 724,600 plays and 116,500 likes in four months (shown below).
Thereafter, other TikTokers began making similar videos such as TikToker[5] @rickgrimesfeetandtoes, who posted their first video on October 22nd, 2022, gaining roughly 2,900 plays in three months (since deleted).
TikToker @rickgrimesfeetandtoes eventually earned more engagement, like with one TikTok[6] uploaded on November 5th, 2022, that received roughly 146,300 plays and 24,300 likes in two months (since deleted). Also, TikToker[7] @saul_goodmun (the alleged alt account of @rickgrimesfeetandtoes) posted similar The Walking Dead edits starting in August 2022.
TikToker Cookie King's edits became increasingly nonsensical heading into late 2022. For instance, on December 31st, he posted a bad Walking Dead edit on TikTok[8] with text overlay reading, "Bro I bought this edit off Fiverr for $29.99 💀," gaining roughly 634,300 plays and 78,100 likes in nine days (shown below).
On January 6th, 2023, TikToker[9] @user5777294729 posted a video in line with the trend, earning roughly 268,600 plays and 48,800 likes in three days (shown below).
