About
Bad Sasuke Drawing refers to an artistically lacking pencil drawing of Naruto character Sasuke Uchiha. Online, the image gained significant popularity as a reaction and an exploitable and has been a subject of fan art.
Origin
The author of the drawing was originally unknown when it emerged online in early 2017. The image gained initial notoriety on Amino in February 2017, with the earliest available repost of the image made by Amino user Abi$ai jair on February 22nd, 2017 (shown below).[1] In the following month, more users on Amino reposted the image,[2][3] with the drawing being posted on /ic/ board of 4chan in March 2017.[4]
Spread
In the following years, the image gained popularity as a reaction and an exploitable, particularly among Spanish-speaking and Portuguese-speaking users. For example, on May 2nd, 2017, Amino user Otaku Com Altismo ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) reposted an edit parodying Sasuke's "thinking pose" made by an unknown author (shown below, left).[5] On December 29th, 2017, another edit by an unknown author was posted on 9GAG, gaining over 90 points (shown below, right).[6]
Prior to July 17th, 2019, Twitter user @lucasuchiha posted a redrawn version of the image on an unknown platform, with the image being reposted by multiple accounts in the following months (shown below, left).[7][8] Before November 9th, artist Kasiax posted another redrawn version of the image to Facebook and Instagram (shown below, right), later replacing the original post with a version that made it more clear that the artwork is a parody.[9][10]
Author Revealed
On February 10th, 2024, Facebook[11] user Prince Rusty Raposas uploaded a To Get This, I Had To Survive This meme that showed his art progress. In the same post, he also admitted that he drew the infamous Sasuke drawing. The post received more than 6,300 reactions and 6,300 shares in two days (shown below).
Two days prior, the same Facebook[12] user uploaded a confession post about the Sasuke drawing and explained the reason behind his creation of it in the comment section. The post received roughly 500 reactions and 400 shares in four days.
The origin of that saski meme was a drawing I did back when I was still new to artworks.
I did a lot of ben 10 and western art so when I transitioned to anime it became wonky.
My posts of anime art is as early as 2014 back in anime amino. Thou I forgot what username I had back then thats where I first posted it.
We live quite far back in the province so when we have unused papers lying around we use it as fuel for fire to cook our food.
Most of my old drawings are there including the saski art.
But the internet saves everything even the bad memory you had back when u were an unconfident kid and afraid of critiques ( still afraid even now )
So it was preserved, honestly I wasnt proud that it gained attention and thou I was ashamed I swallowed it up and memed it even more and denied that I was the original artist.
It was more interesting for me that the meme got out of hand and no one knew who drew it.
