Bad Guy SpongeBob Twist is a series of TikTok videos in which users transform themselves into SpongeBob SquarePants scenes or characters to a remixed version of Billie Eilish's song "Bad Guy."

Origin

On April 30th, 2019, YouTuber Manwel Super uploaded a remixed version of the Billie Eilish song "Bad Guy" in a video called "bad guy spongebob meme" (shown below). The video gained over 120,800 views and 6,600 likes in five weeks.

Spread

On May 30th, 2019, TikTok user @Ghostgayaya uploaded the remix to TikTok (shown below, left). The song has been used in over 45,200 videos in a week. The next day @Jarod Monk uploaded a video oh himself transforming into a SpongeBob character and asked other users to "create a chain" (shown below, right). The video gained over 144,100 likes and 6,700 shares in a week.

On May 31st, @ghostgayaya uploaded a video thanking TikTok users for using his uploaded soundclip (shown below, left). The next day, TikTok users continued to use the song for Bad Guy SpongeBob Twist videos. @_eilliart_ uploaded a drawing of Billie Eilish as SpongeBob (shown below, center). The video gained over 602,700 likes and 42,700 shares in a week. On June 3rd, @SpencerTwatson continued the original chain with a video of himself turning into Patrick Star covered in ice cream (shown below, right). The video gained over 249,900 likes and 8,700 shares in four days.
