About

Bad Bunny Explaining To Kendall Jenner is a photograph of the celebrity couple sitting together courtside at a basketball game, which shows Bad Bunny saying something into a flustered-looking Jenner's ear. Many online thought the photo resembled various memes that depicted men mansplaining things to women, such as Bro Explaining.

Origin

The photo was taken at Game 6 of the Western Conference NBA semifinals game between the Lakers and the Warriors on the evening of May 12th, 2023.[1] Just after midnight on May 12th, 2023 (California time) a video of Bad Bunny saying something into Jenner's ear while sitting courtside at the game was posted to Twitter[2] by @mwuahssn. The image seems to have been taken from this footage.

Rumors about the two celebrities possibly dating had spread across social media in 2022 and 2023, and their relationship was confirmed by representatives that spring.[4]

Spread

Some users, such as @JohnnyKeil617, connected the image of Bad Bunny and Kendall Jenner to famous meme formats that showed men explaining things to women, or, in the summer of 2022, women explaining things to men.. Twitter[3] user @JohnnyKeil617 received over 2,000 likes on the morning of May 13th for making this comparison (seen below left). Others started to use the meme directly with some of the same kinds of things the man (or girl) would say in other explaining memes, like @mattturck (seen below right) who received almost 500 likes on the evening of May 13th, 2023.[6]

The meme rapidly gained mainstream traction. For example, the official Twitter[5] account of the Merriam Webster Dictionary made a post (seen below) using the meme on May 13th, 2023, earning over 26,300 likes in a day.
