Bad Advice refers to a series of TikTok videos parodying cliché videos in which users film aesthetically pleasing things and list positive advice for incoming high school freshman.
Origin
On June 6th, 2019, TikTok user @Olivia Giordano uploaded the earliest known version of bad advice which gave incoming freshman advice like not getting vaccinated (shown below). The video accumulated over 17,400 likes and 800 retweets in a month.
Spread
On June 16th, 2019, TikTok user @you need help👁👄👁 posted a video of bad advice on how to make friends (shown below, left). The video gained over 172,900 likes and 5,700 shares in three weeks. On June 19th, @💕School Hacks💕posted a video of school tips like bring snacks while filming a bottle of ibuprofen (shown below, center). The video garnered over 14,200 likes in two weeks. On June 20th, TikTok user @Douglas Cowman uploaded a video of bad airport tips which gained over 39,400 likes and 1,600 shares in two weeks (shown below, right).
