Babybooing, also known as Baby Booing, the Babyboo Dance or the Baby Boo Dance, refers to a TikTok dance trend that originally started as a twerking trend to a clapping section of the song "What You Is" by NBA YoungBoy, in which he says, "She gon' call me baby boo." The twerking trend occurred alongside another dance trend that involved hopping and kicking, which was viral but didn't inspire memetic spread via cultural references.

The Baby Boo twerk trend inspired memes and video skits about men thristing and being distracted by the audio in novel situations. It also inspired an ironic Baby Boo dance, which propelled the meme in late 2025, started by TikTokers Haskell (@ilikehaskell) and Diddybop, also known as Trap Queen Owen. The ironic spin was a dance resembling swimming, meant to resemble spreading the buttcheeks of a woman twerking to the song.

Origin

On September 9th, 2025, rapper NBA YoungBoy and hip-hop producer Mellow Rackz released the song "What You Is," uploading the song's music video to YouTube^[1] on that day. Over three months, the video received over 12.6 million views.

At the song's 2:02 timestamp, NBA YoungBoy raps, "Crush the Molly like some ice / She gon' call me Baby Boo," which is followed by hand-clapping sound effects as women in the music video twerk.

Spread

On September 9th, 2025, TikToker^[2] @whatchaon4 reposted the clip with the caption, "The Beat Switch Was Insane." Over three months, the video received over 239,000 likes. It also started a viral TikTok sound^[3] that amassed over 609,900 posts in three months.

From the sound came several trends, starting in September 2025. For instance, on September 13th, TikToker^[4] @bubba.mcneil shared a video of himself clapping to the song like NBA YoungBoy in the music video, gaining over 173,400 likes in three months.

On September 24th, 2025, TikToker^[5] @kaelynsanaa shared a video of herself clapping her hands along with the song. Over three months, it received over 488,900 likes.

During the same timeframe, some women on the app shared videos of themselves twerking or shaking their thighs to the song, such as TikToker^[6] @caziyahjakai0 on September 21st, gaining over 392,600 likes in three months.

On September 23rd, 2025, TikToker^[7] @user3lnf1j78jm shared a video of her and a friend performing a dance to the song, involving hop steps and leg kicks in rhythm with the hand-clapping sounds. Over three months, the video received over 339,200 likes.

Others on the app, like TikToker^[8] @raquelamdal on October 6th, replicated the dance in new videos.

During the same timeframe, another trend with the audio emerged on TikTok,^[11][12] which involved a man dropping money on a woman's face in rhythm with the hand-clapping sound.

Haskell's Babyboo Dance

On October 10th, 2025, TikToker^[9] Haskell (@ilikehaskell) shared a video of himself dancing to the Babyboo audio, with text overlay reading, "New dance alert??" His dance for the song involved him stepping forward and doing a swimming motion with his hands, as if spreading two cheeks. Over two months, the video received over 88,900 likes.

Haskell's dance received viral spread heading into late 2025, which led to the coinage of the term Babybooing to describe the dance.

For instance, on November 16th, TikToker^[10] @lessllieeee_ posted a video of herself Babybooing and "genuinely" entering a "flow state," gaining over 156,100 likes in a month.
