Baby Yoda's "Take the Shot" refers to a series of memes based on the scene from The Mandalorian series in which titular character the Mandalorian attacks Jawas with a rifle. Online, memes in which Baby Yoda orders the Mandalorian to commit various historic and fictional murders gained popularity.

Origin

On November 15th, 2019, episode two Chapter 2: The Child of the webseries The Mandalorian premiered.^[1] In one scene of the episode, character The Mandalorian is shown shooting Jawas from a rifle, with the Child (Baby Yoda) observing the shooting from its pod.

Between November 15th and 16th, an unknown user created a two-panel meme based on the scene in which Baby Yoda orders the Mandalorian to take the shot and proceeds to comment "Mmm, yes, murder" (shown below). On November 16th, 2019, Redditor AStone91 reposted the image to /r/TheMandalorian^[2] subreddit, where it gained over 1,700 upvotes in one month. A December 17th, repost by iFunny ^[3]user Dr_Charizard received over 110,800 smiles in one month, with the same day /r/dankmemes post by Redditor^[4] stonedwolf007 gaining over 14,200 upvotes in the same period.

Spread

In the following days, the format gained popularity as an object labeling meme and an exploitable on Reddit, Facebook and other websites. For example, a November 17th, 2019, post by Redditor^[5] Rey_Of_Sunshine received over 9,500 upvotes in one month (shown below, left). A November 19th, post in Dragon Ball Exclusives Facebook^[6] group received over 3,500 reactions and 7,300 shares (shown below, right).
