Ba Ba Ba Lin Lin, also known as Ball Ball Ball Lin Lin or simply Ba Ba Ba, is a TikTok sound and Misheard Song Lyric Speech Bubbles trend that uses a sped-up remix of the Travis Scott song "90210." Creators use a visual effect called Datamosh to show inanimate objects lip dubbing the "Ba Ba Ba" sound, usually captioned with the phrasal template, No Way X Knows Ba Ba Ba. It started in early 2022, spreading over the following months.

Origin

On April 26th, 2022, TikToker^[1] csxd.hugana posted a video shitpost that used footage from Minecraft and the song "90210" by Travis Scott. Csxd.hugana set the video at 1.3x speed which altered the audio, giving it a sped-up effect. Over the course of three months, the TikTok received roughly 1.2 million plays and 76,400 likes (shown below, left). On May 9th, 2022, TIkToker^[2] greypogostick62 was the first to use the sound in a video that received roughly 585,200 plays and 63,000 likes in two months (shown below, right).

Spread

On May 13th, 2022, TikToker csxd.hugana posted the "90210" sped-up remix to YouTube, earning roughly 440,100 views in two months (shown below).

On June 4th, 2022, TikToker^[3] gusfrong posted an Ironic Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul meme that used Impact font written over Hector Salamanca stating, "Ball Ball Ball Din Din," earning roughly 55,700 plays and 2,100 likes in one month (shown below, left). On June 23rd, 2022, TikToker^[4] trench_runner used the sound in an El Gato "Misheard Speech Bubble" meme, writing, "Ball Ball Ball Lin Lin," earning roughly 1.1 million plays and 195,200 likes in one month (shown below, right).

Additionally, csxd.hugana's sound^[5] was used for many Beast Boy / Guy Holding Up Four Fingers memes in May and June 2022.

Ba Ba Ba

On May 24th, 2022, TikToker^[6] yasin.ii posted a video using a different sped-up remix of Travis Scott's "90210." It instead ended the intro acapella right after the high-pitched "Ba Ba Ba" sound. Over the course of two months, the video received roughly 656,700 plays and 119,400 likes (shown below).

On May 26th, 2022, TikToker^[7] dariel.lmao was the first to use yasin.ii's sound^[8] in a video that received roughly 60,000 plays and 5,500 likes in two months (shown below, left). Many creators exploited the sound going into June 2022 when a new trend developed, wherein, creators used the Datamosh^[9] visual effect to make it appear that inanimate objects were lip dubbing "Ba Ba Ba." The first to do this was TikToker^[10] alberttheredthing on June 23rd, 2022, who received roughly 6.9 million plays and 1.1 million likes in one month (shown below, right).

The trend continued en masse going into late July 2022, whereby July 28th, 2022, yasin.ii's sound^[8] had amassed roughly 23,100 TikToks using it.
