Aww Sweet! A Schizo Thread!, also Schizo Meltdown, refers to a series of reaction images based on an image of Peter Griffin in a chair with a remote in his hand. The original reaction image expresses amusement at discovering a thread created by a mentally unstable individual, with the image conveying anticipation of entertainment.

Origin

On February 12th, 2021, an anonymous 4chan^[1] user posted an image macro combining the image of Family Guy character Peter Griffin sitting in a chair and pointing a remote with the caption "Aww, sweet! A schizo thread!" in a thread on the /pol/ board (original post and image shown below, left and right).

Spread

The image saw four instances of use in February 2021 but did not see further spread until early May 2021, when it achieved moderate popularity after the user, likely the author of the image, used it in several threads on /pol/^[2]^[3] and /v/^[4]^[5] boards over the course of two weeks. Before that, on April 5th, an anonymous /pol/^[6] user posted a remade version of the image (image shown below, right). This version of the image was first to achieve popularity, seeing active use on /v/^[7]^[8] board already starting on April 21st, 2021 (example shown below, left).

Following the active spread of both versions of the image on 4chan in May 2021, the second version of the reaction spread to iFunny. On May 24th, 2021, iFunny^[9] user Tourqon commented "Aw sweet a schizo meltdown" on an unknown post (shown below, left), with user aestrobloome posting^[10] a recaptioned version of the reaction to the app, gaining over 120 smiles in five months (shown below, right).

The recaptioned version of the image achieved notable popularity on iFunny^[11] in the following months, with users posting it in the comments to various posts. On June 27th, 2021, iFunny^[12] user BeefFishtick posted a voiced version of the reaction image (shown below), with the video gaining over 3,300 smiles in four months.

In the following months, multiple derivative memes based on the reaction image appeared both on 4chan and iFunny.
