About
Avidi Kadivi or Avada Kedavra Small Wand Trend refers to a viral video where a man pulls a tiny icicle off of a car and flourishes it like a wand, saying, "avidi kadivi" in a small voice as he does, a reference to Harry Potter's "killing curse" "avada kedavra." The video, uploaded to TIkTok in March 2022, inspired a trend that month where users brandish similarly small wand-like objects over the sound.
Origin
On March 13th, 2022, TIkToker[1] @wanderingandlost posted a video where a man pulls a small icicle off of their car then flourishes it as if casting a spell (shown below). He says, "avidi kadivi," in a small voice, a personally mispronounced version of "avada kedavra," a spell in Harry Potter that kills the person it's cast on.[5] The video gained over 28.2 million views in two weeks.
Spread
The original sound became popular on TikTok over the course of the month, inspiring over 130,000 videos by March 30th. The majority of the videos use the sound over similar videos where users pick up a small, wand-like object and flourish it in the same way. For example, on March 17th, TikToker[2] @thatguy_tyler21 posted a video performing the trend with a hairbrush tooth, gaining over 33.9 million views in two weeks (shown below).
On March 20th, TikToker[3] @drumswithcat posted a video where he performs the trend with his sleeping baby's hand, who fell asleep holding a small twig, gaining over 15 million views in 10 days (shown below, left). On March 21st, YouTuber[7] Callum Fraser posted an edit adding the sound effect over a scene where Harry Potter uses the spell on Voldemort, gaining over 3,000 views in nine days. On March 22nd, TikToker[4] @chinpals posted a video performing the trend with a chinchilla whisker, gaining over 26 million views in eight days (shown below, right).
