About

AUUGHHH is an onomatopoeia for the sound effect of a man snoring in a viral video from TikTok that was later turned into a sound effect, similar to the Vine Boom and Roblox Death Sound. The sound effect typically shows up in short meme videos and skits as a humorous snoring sound or as a replacement for other common meme sounds, primarily on TikTok.

Origin

The original video with the sound effect was posted sometime in early October 2021 but was deleted after the sound became popularized late that year, leading to an audio page[1] for the sound with no progenitor listed. On February 11th, 2022, a reupload of the original AUUGHHH sound was posted by TikTokker MontLawnCamp,[2] where it received over 23,400 likes in three months (shown below).

Spread

On the same day as the reupload, February 11th, 2022, the YouTube channel Garrison[3] uploaded the audio ripped from TikTok and isolated it for others to use in memes. The audio upload received 3.7 million views in three months and got over 134,000 likes (shown below).

The sound then became popularized and was frequently featured in video memes on TikTok, with a separate TikToker (named Do) creating a second audio page[4] for the sound effect that has over 155,000 videos posted to it as of May 11th, 2022. The sound then began to get remixed and used in more versatile ways, typically comedic skits, as seen in the video by TikToker Biggest_Off[5] in which he uses the sound to replace a chainsaw starting up on February 18th, 2022, earning 728,000 likes in three months (shown below).
