The Australian Twins Bridgette and Paula Powers Viral Video refers to a viral video of Australian twin sisters Bridgette and Paula Powers talking in sync on a news report while describing their mother's carjacking in Sunshine Coast, Queensland. The TV segment depicting the two blonde women ran on the Australian news network 7NEWS in late April 2025. It spread via reposts on Twitter / X, TikTok, Instagram and Facebook soon after. The clip went viral mostly because of the twins talking in sync, but many were skeptical of them, with some believing that they were faking it.

Origin

On April 21st, 2025, the TikTok[1] account of 7NEWS (@7newsq) tweeted a recent segment about a carjacking in Sunshine Coast, Queensland. The reporter spoke with twin sisters Bridgette and Paula Powers, whose mother was the victim. The twins spoke in sync during the interview, finishing each other's sentences and talking together in unison. In a day, the TikTok post received roughly 2.7 million views and 139,400 likes (shown below).

7NEWS also posted the segment to X[8] on April 21st, gaining over 5 million views and 8,200 likes in a day.

Background

Bridgette and Paula Powers are twin sisters, nicknamed "The Twinnies." They first made Australian headlines in the 2010s, like in an interview with news anchor Piers Morgan, uploaded to YouTube[11] in July 2016 (shown below).

The Twinnies notably run a charity for pelican and seabird rescue in Queensland, Australia. Their main page is on Facebook.[10] According to ABC News Australia,[9] the sisters became interested in animal rescue at a young age. They met Australian wildlife expert and TV personality Steve Irwin when they were young before his untimely passing in 2006.

Later on April 21st, 2025, X[2] user @CollinRugg reposted the video, gaining over 3.4 million views and 20,000 likes in a day. Redditor shaka_sulu also reposted the video to the /r/Unexpected[3] subreddit on April 21st, gaining over 6,800 upvotes in a day.

A few hours later, X[4] user @DiabolicalSpuds reposted the news report, captioning it, "There is nothing that can prepare you for when they cut to the interview," receiving over 10.9 million views and 148,000 likes in a day (shown below).



The viral reposts sparked reactions on their respective platforms. For instance, on April 21st, 2025, X[5] user @amandaknox quote tweeted the video, writing, "Fascinating. Are there any psychologists who can explain what's happening here? It's like one mind distributed over two brains," gaining over 21,000 likes in a day (shown below).



In the replies, on April 22nd, X[6] user @reubal responded, "Note that it all falls apart when they have to answer a spontaneous question. One clearly tries to predict what the other will say at that point. Once that happens, the first part feels really rehearsed," receiving over 310 likes in a few hours.

Redditors were also skeptical of the twins in the comment section of the /r/Unexpected[3] subreddit post. For instance, Redditor[7] Responsible_Bag220 wrote, "They had it until run for your…life/safety. Mmmm," gaining over 350 upvotes in a day.

On April 21st, 2025, X[12] user @AndrewAQLD posted a photoshop featuring Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and opposition leader Peter Dutton with the caption, "It's a supply issue," gaining over 1,000 likes in a day (shown below).
