About
AUGHHHH or AHHHH is an audio clip and sound effect of a person snoring intensely that became popularized in memes and videos as an original sound on TikTok in late 2021 throughout early 2022. The audio clip is often used without its original context for the sake of shitposting, making it hard to determine what the source of the sound is. In February 2022, it was notably combined with the Carmen Winstead audio. It is also often described as a goofy ahh sound on TikTok.
Origin
The exact origin of the sound is unclear. One hypothesis is that the sound is an edited snore taken from a February 6th, 2020 viral video, posted to Twitter,[10] where a Chinese security guard allegedly fell asleep over a loudspeaker device, broadcasting his snores over Chongqing (shown below). Some believe this video is fake, with Redditor[11] Leevotion commenting on a share of the video to /r/China, "Believed to be a fake video. The audio was a girl recording her boyfriend’s snoring inside a karaoke booth. Then added to this video." The source of the karaoke video is unknown.

Spread
On August 7th, 2021, YouTuber[1] Just For Fun posted the same video, titled "اغرب صوت شخير" (shown below). The video is covered in Arabic text that translates to "Poor guy hasn't slept in a week" and "He swallowed a Z280 engine," comparing the snoring to an engine. It garnered over 41,700 views in six months. This appears to be a repost from the Snapchat[8] page G-XLX based on the watermark.
On December 25th, 2021, TikToker[2] @bdeo4life posted a 21st-Century Humor compilation set to an original sound consisting of the snoring audio, gaining over 3.7 million views in two months (shown below).
The original sound became notably popularized over the following weeks and was used over 46,900 times by late February 2022. The two highest engagement videos as of that time are skits by TikTokers[3][4] @boeshi and @itsmacdoogle about struggling to sleep through your dad's snoring, gaining over 17.8 million and 28.7 million views respectively by February 28th (shown below, left and right).
