ASMR to Help You Sleep – Beating You Until You're Unconscious refers to an exploitable meme template based on YouTube thumbnails by Jojas Makes Videos and ASMR Sharm showing the uploader beating someone with an object from a first-person POV perspective, titled "ASMR to help u sleep – I beat you until ur unconscious." The video was uploaded in November 2018 and a screenshot of it spread over the following months, inspiring other YouTubers to make similar videos and also inspiring redraws and memes referencing and altering the thumbnails of the various uploads.

Origin

On November 15th, 2018, YouTuber[1] Jojas Makes Videos posted a video titled "ASMR to help you sleep – I beat you until ur unconscious" where he parodies ASMR videos by pretending to beat the viewer unconscious with various objects, garnering over 1.3 million views in five years (shown below).

On December 7th, a now-deleted Redditor shared a screenshot of the video to /r/meirl,[2] garnering over 23,300 upvotes in five years. On December 26th, it was posted to /r/teenagers,[3] garnering over 300 upvotes in the same span of time. On November 9th, 2019, YouTuber[4] ASMR Sharm posted a similar video to the original, titled, "ASMR TO HELP YOU SLEEP- Beating you until you're unconscious 😤," garnering over 2.6 million views in four years (shown below).

On November 23rd, Tumblr[5] user threesideddream shared a screenshot of the video's thumbnail, garnering over 76,000 notes in the same span of time. On November 24th, X[6] user @tyleroakley posted the screenshot, writing, "it’s all that calms me these days 😌💞," garnering over 10,000 likes in the same span of time (shown below, left and right).

On December 2nd, 2019, Know Your Meme[7] user Jazz Wizard archived a redraw of the ASMR Sharm video, replacing the uploader in the thumbnail with the Pokemon Hatterene, garnering over 13,000 views in four years (shown below). It is unclear if this is the user's original content or if it is from another source. On November 18th, 2020, X[8] user @BO_D88 posted a Jujutsu Kaisen redraw of the meme, garnering over 5,800 likes in three years.

On August 1st, 2021 Redditor u/Nyawn5 posted a redraw of the meme to /r/FireEmblemHeroes[9] referencing the game Fire Emblem Heroes, garnering over 2,200 upvotes in two years (shown below, left). On February 4th, 2022, X[10] user @thatbennybee posted a redraw replacing the person with an anthropomorphic bee, garnering over 10,000 likes in a year (shown below, right).

On July 28th, 2022, Redditor u/heckyeah2131 posted a redraw of the meme to /r/OMORI[11] referencing the game OMORI, garnering over 1,100 upvotes in a year. On January 24th, 2023, Facebook[12] page Jujutsu Kaisen reposted @BO_D88's November 2020 redraw, garnering over 7,400 shares and 30,000 reactions in nine months (shown below).
