Ashley O "On a Roll" is a song featured in Netflix's Black Mirror episode "Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too" sung by American pop singer Miley Cyrus's character Ashley O.

Origin

On June 5th, 2019, Season five episode three of Black Mirror aired on Netflix introducing viewers to the song "On a Roll" which is a remix of Nine Inch Nails Song "Head Like a Hole." Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails gave permission to Black Mirror creator Charlie Brooker to remix the song and change the lyrics.[5] The episode features Miley Cyrus playing pop singer character Ashley O. On June 13th, 2019, Netflix released a full official music video for the song "On a Roll" by Ashley O (shown below). The video gained over 6.9 million views and 343,000 likes in six days.

On June 13th, 2019, Justin Bieber commented on Miley Cyrus'[1] Instagram photo saying, "Hailey and I loved the episode" (shown below, left). The comment gained over 26,900 likes in five days. On June 14th, a day after the official music video release the song reached the iTunes charts. Twitter user @clownery_[4] only tweeted a screen shot of the charts saying, "IM STILL LAUGHING at the fact that we’re stanning a fictional character from Black Mirror to the point where we already have her charting JKSKSKSKSK… anyway go stream On a Roll by Ashley O" (shown below, right). The tweet garnered over 1,100 likes and 200 retweets in five days.

On June 15th, American singer Halsey[2] tweeted, "Black Mirror episode about a popstar named Ashley with colorful hair. Existential crisis: Engage" commenting on the similarity between herself and Ashley O (shown below, left). The tweet accumulated over 149,700 likes and 13,.200 retweets in four days. That same day @halsey[3] retweeted, @semiofsummer who posted a screen shot of a Halsey video saying, "Ashley O? More like Ashley F" (shown below, right). The video gained over 79,200 likes and 5,700 retweets in four days.

Over the next few days, various Twitter users uploaded videos of themselves dancing to the song. On June 16th, Twitter user @J_Scazza17 posted a dancing video which received over 6,700 likes and 700 retweets in three days (shown below).


Oh Honey

On June 16th, 2019, TikTokkers began using the sound clip containing the lyrics "oh honey" in remixes. The videos implement text to describe scenarios in which a person would react by saying "oh honey." That day TikTok user @mattsau posted a video using the clip to describe a teacher's reaction to the students test. The video gained over 41,200 likes and 1,400 shares in four days. Within the next 24 hours over 10,000 people used the sound clip in TikTok videos like users @trevorruland and @alyssaisntprada, for example, whose videos gained over 10,400 likes and 95,100 likes respectively in four days (shown below, right).
