On March 26th, 2025, Twitter / X[1] user @KrishRShah posted a series of images showing a group photo of him and his friends altered using OpenAI's GPT-4o Image Generation tool. The image was recreated in the trending Studio Ghibli style, as an oil painting and as a manga-style line drawing. The tweet gathered over 13,000 likes in two days.
Several internet users criticized @KrishRShah for his post over the following hours and days, with X[5] user @samfbiddle quoting the post on March 26th, 2025, and writing, "One of the most interesting things about generative AI stuff is the extent to which it's revealed how many people have a deep, deep contempt not just for artists but for art itself." The post gathered over 114,000 likes in two days.
On March 27th, 2025, X[2] user @FredTaming quoted the aforementioned post with an image of a microwavable dinner, writing, "cooking just became accessible." The post gathered over 110,000 likes in a day.
That same day, X / Twitter[3] user @aprompumpkin quoted the aforementioned post with an image of several cave paintings, writing, "it's been accessible since the stone age you fucking idiot." The post gathered over 8,000 likes in a day.
Also on March 27th, 2025, X / Twitter[4] user @Ranting_Trans quoted the aforementioned post with an image showing that a box of pencils costs $10, writing, "Art was always accessible." The post gathered over 12,000 likes in a day.
