About

Are You Fucking Stupid? Me:, also known as Him: Are You Fucking Stupid? Me: or Her: Are You Fucking Stupid? Me:, refers to a catchphrase used to caption animals, emojis and characters, among other images, that humorously portray the meme creator as an idiot. The meme became prevalent on Twitter in late 2022 and 2023, starting with memes that used both Smiling Buck Tooth Emojis. Later on, many of the tweets used images of dogs.

Origin

On October 21st, 2022, Twitter[1] user @smetsee tweeted a buck tooth emoji with the caption, "her: are you stupid / me:" gaining roughly 11,900 likes in nine months (shown below).

Spread

Soon after the tweets upload, it was "Reposted" to other platforms like Instagram.[2][3] Despite an October 2022 origin, the trend didn't become notable until mid-2023, following the virality of the Smiling Buck Tooth Emoji meme. For instance, the first viral variant of the meme was posted by Twitter[4] user @icedanecr which used the Smiling Buck Tooth Emoji, gaining roughly 21,400 likes in two months (shown below, left). Thereafter, the format gained variations, such as a tweet posted by Twitter[5] user @FredKraken on June 2nd, that used a cat video, receiving roughly 18,100 likes in one month (GIF shown below, right).

On May 31st, 2023, Twitter[6] user @bigkirbyfan posted an iteration that added the word "fucking" to the caption, pairing it with an image of a dog. The tweet gained roughly 137,600 likes in two months (shown below, left). After @bigkirbyfan's viral tweet, their version of the caption with the word "fucking" gained more usage, such as in a tweet sent by Twitter[7] user @o0OoOoOoO0o0 on July 3rd, 2023, that used a horse photo, gaining roughly 48,600 likes in 15 days (shown below, right).

Viral iterations then surfaced en masse on Twitter[8] in July 2023, additionally surfacing on Instagram.[9]
