Aquaman Poster Edits are a series of photoshop memes based on the poster for the 2018 superhero film Aquaman.

Origin

On July 16th, 2018, the official Twitter [1] for the 2018 DC Extended Universe superhero film Aquaman posted an image of the poster for the film, featuring Aquaman (portrayed by Jason Momoa submerged in the sea and surrounded by marine life. The post (shown below) received more than 29,000 retweets and 61,000 likes in two days.

Following the post, people online began photoshopping the character into different posters and photoshopping other characters into the poster. That day, Twitter[2] user @Kabuki_Q tweeted the poster featuring Disney, SpongeBob SquarePants, Pixar and more. The post (shown below, left) received more than 1,600 retweets and 4,100 likes in two days. Additionally, Twitter[4] user @TheImgHobbyist photoshopped the character into the poster for the film Free Willy (shown below, center)

Twitter[3] user @pixelatedboat tweeted a version in which the title of the movie is changed to read "Wet Dave." The post (shown below, right) received more than 1,200 retweets and 7,400 likes in 24 hours.

That day, Twitter[5] user tweeted, "they deadass used getty images photo of a shark and cropped it onto their poster LMFAOOOOOOOO the dceu is a fucking joke." The post (shown below) received more than 1,500 retweets and 5,800 likes in 24 hours.

Several media outlets covered the meme, including Uproxx,[6] Yahoo, [7] Junkee[8] and more.
