Apple Store Girl or Apple Store Queen refers to a viral video of American internet personality Lashay Hinton dancing to Pretty Ricky’s “Love Like Honey” inside an Apple Store. The video was originally recorded in 2009 but went viral in November 2018 as part of the "#AppleStoreChallenge" in which people parodied her dance moves and clothes in comedic videos on Instagram and Facebook. Parody videos of Apple Store Girl also resurfaced on TikTok in March 2024.

Origin

Somewhere between November 7th and 8th, 2018, Lashay Hinton posted a video of her on Instagram from 2009 in which she danced to Pretty Ricky’s song “Love Like Honey” in front of one of the computers’ webcams inside a
Apple Store.

Hinton's account has since been deleted, but YouTube^[1] user @HataMakaJuno reposted the viral video (shown below), calling her the "Apple Store Girl," explaining Lashay would visit the same Apple Store for years to record the same dance. The video amassed more than 339,000 views and 6,600 likes in six years.

In just 24 hours after the video went viral, several netizens started to post parody videos doing the "Apple Store Girl" dance, creating the hashtag #applestorechallenge in which they would go to Apple Stores all across the United States to record dance videos.

For example, on November 9th, 2018, Facebook^[2] user @JayWill posted a video doing the challenge (shown below), using similar clothes Hinton used in her viral video, which amassed over 1 million views and 15 likes in six years.

On November 12th, thanks to the "Apple Store Girl" virality, Lashay Hinton was surprised by influencer @lalamilan^[3] with a new Macbook and makeover (seen in the video below), which amassed more than 295,000 views and 17,000 likes in six years.

Apple Store Girl Parodies On TikTok

The Apple Store Girl resurfaced on TikTok in February 2024 as users started to share parody videos using a sped-up version of Laila's "Like That!" song.

For instance, on March 11th, 2024, TikTok^[4] user @theolloiscysh recreated Hinton's dance moves (shown below, left), amassing over 10 million plays and 1 million likes in a month. On April 9th, TikTok^[5] user @zacjeremiah posted a similar video doing the Apple Store Girl dance trend (shown below, right), garnering roughly 2.7 million plays and 454,000 likes in two days.
