Origin

According to Meme Documentation, [1] the first instance of the phrase was posted either on or slightly before July 30th, 2016 by deactivated account debthaver[2] responding to a thread of people talking discussing a shitpost rumor about Anthony Fantano dying that gained over 1,700 notes (shown below).

Spread

Over the following year, the phrase was used in several other bizarre, heated, and shitpost-type threads in an attempt to derail the conversation. For example, a post from October 16th, 2016, reblogged by webfriend[3] responds to a thread of vaguely romantic and lovelorn posts with the phrase. The entire post has gained over 65,000 notes (shown below, left). Another post by bepeu and reblogged by chloroform[4] used the phrase in a post that overall gained over 73,000 notes (shown below, right).

Meme Documentation covered the meme on September 14th, 2017, though did not give a full explanation for the post as the meme originated in 2016. They included an example of someone responding with the phrase to a thread of people discussing Steven Universe and asexuality that gained over 85,000 notes (shown below).
