About
Anthony Bourdain Advice Parodies, also known as Anthony Bourdain "Go To a Restaurant," refers to a series of memes using a black-and-white photo of the late chef, writer and TV personality Anthony Bourdain that fabricate quotes from him about living life to the fullest, often specific to enjoying food, restaurants and travel. The trend started en masse in early 2024 on Twitter / X. The photo of Bourdain became an exploitable too as meme creators edited him to fit the context of their caption.
Origin
In March 2017, Hollywood Reporter[1][2] photographer Moses Mobley took a black-and-white photo of Anthony Bourdain for the magazine's cover story "CNN’s War to Win the Web" (shown below, left). Bourdain later made a square-cropped version of the photo his Twitter / X profile picture (shown below, right).
On May 1st, 2024, X[3] user @OutlawsPoetic tweeted a quote from Bourdain about traveling, gaining over 4,100 likes in 19 days (shown below, left).
Later in the month, satirical iterations surfaced, starting with a tweet shared by X[4] user @DerekPutin on May 13th, who wrote, "Go to a fucking restaurant. I don’t care what. Go to a fucking restaurant and order a fucking beer. It’s about food. Fucking food. Life is about mother fucking restaurants." In one week, the tweet gained over 14,000 likes (shown below, right).
Spread
Going into May 2024, various iterations surfaced on the platform, becoming increasingly verbose and specific. For instance, on May 17th, 2024, X[5] user @ImSmilingRn tinted Bourdain yellow, referencing The Simpsons, receiving over 14,000 likes in three days (shown below, left).
On May 18th, X[6] user @Jetskigrizzly tweeted an iteration about Chipotle, gaining over 12,000 likes in two days (shown below, right).
Going into May 2024, the iterations continued on X.[7]
