The earliest known usage of the meme was posted by Redditor [1] Ducks_r_awsum on January 3rd, 2016 (shown below). The post received more than 450 points (97% upvoted).

Three years later, on April 17th, 2019, the Classical Art Memes Facebook [2] posted a version of the image as the response to the caption with the caption "Someone: *opens a bag of chips*." The post received more than 54,000 reactions, 27,000 comments and 21,000 shares in one week (shown below, left). The following day, Redditor[4] Flums666 posted the image on the /r/memes subreddit, changing "chips" to "gum." The post received more than 9,000 points (98% upvoted) and 50 comments in one week (shown below, center).

Two days later, Redditor[5] 214360 posted a version of the meme that references the American television situational comedy The Office. The post received more than 29,000 points (93% upvoted) and 150 comments in five days (shown below, right).
