About

Andy King Fyre Festival Blowjob refers to a series of jokes and memes based on a memorable moment from the 2019 documentary Fyre: The Greatest Party That Never Happened in which Andy King, one of the festival organizers, admits that he nearly performed oral sex on a customs agent in return for a shipment of Evian water bottles being held at the border.

Origin

On January 18th, 2019, Netflix premiered the documentary Fyre: The Greatest Party That Never Happened, which tracks the organizing and eventual failure of the Fyre Festival.[1] In the film, one of the organizers, Andy King describes a time when Bermuda customs withheld a shipment of water bottles for the event. When Billy McFarland, the festival's founder, explained the issue to King, McFarland told him, "Andy, we need you to take one big thing for the team. You're our wonderful gay leader and we need you to go down…will you suck dick to fix this water problem?" King continues: "I got to his [the customs agent's] office fully prepared to suck his dick, but he couldn't have been nicer. He said, 'Andy, listen, I will release all the water, I will let you serve it, but I want to be one of the first people paid.'"

Spread

Following the release of the documentary, people online began expressing their affection for King and his candor about the incident. For example, on January 19th, Twitter user @Lexi_Caly tweeted,[2] "If you don't have people like Andy King in your circle, you don't have people in your circle." The tweet received more than 415 retweets and 900 likes in less than three weeks (shown below, left).

Over the next few days, people began using King's story as the punchline to jokes about going to great lengths to achieve a goal. On January 22nd, Instagram [3] user @theboujeemess posted an image macro of King with the caption "93 year old sugar daddy: 'You want the car or not?'" The post received more than 1,400 likes in one week (shown below, center).

On January 24th, Tumblr [4] user amydicinta shared a meme by Instagram[5] user @diccwaffles that used King's words to complete the lyrics to the Lady Gaga song "LoveGame." The post received more than 19,000 notes in six days (shown below, right).

King's Response

On January 29th, 2019, the Netflix Twitter[6] account tweeted a video interview with King, expressing how "blown away" he has been from the response to the documentary." He said, "Completely blown away. I’m now a noun, a verb, an adjective. It’s mind-boggling." However, he said that "he doesn't necessarily want to be known as the blowjob king of the world." Within 24 hours, the video received more than 3,400 retweets and 13,000 likes (shown below).

Several media outlet reported on the memes and his response, including Vanity Fair,[7] Complex,[8] Uproxx,[9] BuzzFeed, [10] The Daily Dot [11] and more.
