Origin

On June 26th, 1988, the film Coming to America premiered in the United States.^[1] In the film, the characters Prince Akeem and Semmi meet their co-worker Maurice (portrayed by Eddie Murphy, Arsenio Hall and Louie Anderson, respectively) during a shift at the McDonald's analog "McDowell's." When Maurice greets his co-workers, he says, "Hey, I started out mopping the floor just like you guys. But now… now I'm washing lettuce. Soon I'll be on fries; then the grill. In a year or two, I'll make assistant manager, and that's when the big bucks start rolling in."

On November 20th, 2012, YouTuber itsmerocky published the scene online. The post received more than 252,000 views in less than eight years (shown below).

That day, Redditor^[2] mistermuesli used a screenshot from the scene as a reaction to a joke about an exchange with their "girlfriend's dad." The post received more than 76,000 points (95% upvoted) and 395 comments in less than 24 hours (shown below, right).
