On April 11th, 2021, Redditor u/SappharY posted a meme to /r/goodanimemes[1] featuring a photograph of a stone statue on the left labeled "ancient goddess statue" and an image of an anime figurine on the right labeled "modern goddess statue," garnering over 12,000 upvotes in two years (shown below).

The meme became the subject of edits over the following years. On April 22nd, 2021, Redditor u/frankdarkness posted a version of the meme to /r/goodanimemes[2] that gained over 4,900 upvotes in two years (shown below, left).
