Alcremie

About

Alcremie is a Pokémon set to appear in the upcoming eighth generation of Pokémon games, Pokémon Sword and Shield. The Pokémon is a Fairy type resembling a whipped cream dessert. After the Pokémon's announcement, fans quickly joked about the character using sexual innuendo and created fan art also focused on sexual innuendo.

Origin

On July 8th, 2019, The Official Pokémon YouTube Channel posted a video trailer for the upcoming Sword and Shield games, introducing new characters and gym leaders, a new mechanic called Gigantamaxing, and several new Pokémon, including Alcremie (shown below).

The same day, Nintendo of America^[1] tweeted information about Alcremie, saying "Alcremie, a Fairy-type Cream Pokémon, produces whipped cream often used by pastry chefs to make delicious desserts! The happier Alcremie is, the richer the whipped cream! When attacked, Alcremie throws a sweet-scented cream to blind or distract the opponent" (shown below).

After the video was released, social media users began to comment on the Pokémon's design and its description, which many interpreted as sexual innuendo. Twitter user TannerLPer^[2] tweeted that the character would "not survive the internet," anticipating sexualized fan art of the character (shown below, left). User @cupuucakey^[3] tweeted a Nobody joke about the character, also anticipating sexualized art of the character (shown below, right).

User @Jabroni_Mike^[4] tweeted sexualized Gijinka fan-art of Super Sonico, comparing it to the character and gaining over 30 retweets and 240 likes (shown below, left). User @Lewkiss40^[5] tweeted fan art showing the Pokémon with legs, gaining over 150 retweets and 850 likes (shown below, right). Art and jokes about the Pokémon were covered by multiple sites, including Daily Dot,^[6] Eater,^[7] and Nerdist.^[8]
