AI Will Smith Eating Spaghetti refers to a viral video created with ModelScope text2video depicting actor Will Smith eating spaghetti. The video spread on social media for its comical inability to accurately render Will Smith and the act of eating spaghetti, making for several clips of a disproportioned Smith stuffing wads of spaghetti into his mouth with his hands. In February 2024, Will Smith recreated the video as a joke.

Origin

On March 23rd, 2023, Reddit^[1] user /u/chaindrop posted an AI-generated video based on the prompt "Will Smith eating spaghetti" to /r/stablediffusion. The clip gained over 6,500 points in one week.

On March 27th, Twitter^[2] user @MagusWazir reposted the clip (seen below), where it began going viral, gaining over 8,000 retweets and quote-tweets and 34,000 likes in four days. It also racked up over 4.9 million views in that time.

Spread

The clip spread widely on Twitter,^[3] where many commented that it was nightmarish. On March 30th, user @crawf34 reposted the video with the Skull Cow snowclone, gaining 20 retweets and 100 likes in one day (shown below, top). Twitter^[4] user @DJ_PeachCobbler posted the video with the born too late snowclone, gaining over 290 retweets and 2,800 likes in two days (shown below, bottom).

Others made parodies of the clip, tweaking the prompt to get similarly disturbing videos involving Will Smith and spaghetti. For example, Twitter^[5] user @ompuco made a video of "Will Smith eating a spaghetti monster," gaining over 100 retweets and 680 likes in two days (shown below, top). On March 30th, Twitter^[6] user @VFaVFaVFA posted a clip of spaghetti eating Will Smith, gaining over 130 likes in one day (shown below, bottom).

Real Will Smith Version

Following the release of Sora, a text-to-video AI developed by OpenAI, in February 2024, multiple users requested to generate a new version of Will Smith Eating Spaghetti video. For example, on February 16th, 2024, X^[7] user @growing_daniel made a post requesting the video that received over 410 reposts and 11,000 likes (shown below).

On February 19th, Will Smith uploaded a parody video in which he pretended to be an AI-generated version of himself eating spaghetti to his Instagram^[8] account. The video (shown below) garnered over 164,000 likes in three hours.

In the following hours, the video saw viral spread on social media, with some users deliberately leaving out the context to bait others into believing that the video was made with AI.^[9]^[10]
